People often ask, do you build big homes as well?   For 7 Years I ran the Southern Living Magazine Idea House Program.    Showhomes by their nature tend to grow in size during the design phase.    You say let’s build a 3,500 square foot house with all of these features, so you integrate the great Ideas and  Boom it’s 6,000 square feet, the good Architects and Designers can incorporate the great Ideas and not grow the house.  Looney Ricks Kiss Architects in Memphis is among the best.   I had the pleasure of working with LRK repeatedly during my tenure at Southern Living.   Please enjoy this video on Tucker Bayou, the 2007 Southern Living Idea House and 2008 NAHB Home of the Year.   3,800 square feet and certainly Southern Fried.

What makes a Southern Fried Home?

Small, affordable, and Southern Styled,  Our homes are attainable now, and you can grow them over time.  Please tour our website and contact us for houseplans, a custom small home or structure, or one of our stock plans built for you.

Southern Fried Homes spelled another way is the Accessory Dwelling Unit, long a staple in the Northwest is making it’s way East.  Be it a guest house, rental, granny flat, or just a detached man cave, these units are being allowed in a growing number of East Coast Communities.  These homes are well appointed,  low priced and can be delivered in weeks.

Southern Fried Homes can be delivered 3 ways:  (1) For the home owner we can deliver a finished home.  (2) If you’d like to do it yourself you can buy the plans.  (3) For the developer we will provide a land plan and  either build the homes or sell you the plans.

We work in a variety of construction methods:  (1) Traditional site built. (2) Custom Modular (3) Other off-site methods SIPs, panelized.  (4) Finally some combination of these methods.  For example given the location of your project, your timeline, and desire for “Green”/ energy efficiency we might recommend a hybrid of modular and SIPs. If you live in an area with a ready supply of skilled labor at reasonable prices we might suggest traditional site built.  We will truly evaluate on a case by case basis.  The advances in modular quality exhibited by companies like Haven Homes, Handcrafted Homes, Cardinal Homes, for decades has been cutting edge.   When Southern Living magazine built an Idea House in 2007  using modular, a lot of invisible barriers to modular were removed.

You in turn must promise us that you will teach your kids and grandkids to fish, and that you will open the windows and smell the fresh air as long as it’s not too cold outside. You must promise to walk barefoot to the mailbox 3 times a week, and never wear socks on the weekend (except to church.)
And finally you must promise that before our team leaves your site you’ll smoke a large piece of meat on the grill, and give us a hug as we leave.
